The Broward Education Foundation’s Annual Scholarship Celebration “Step Into the ‘80s”
Raises $660,000

Over 450 guests attended the Broward Education Foundation’s annual Scholarship Celebration and helped raise $660,000 in scholarship dollars for Broward County Public Schools graduating seniors.

The event netted $500,000, $160,000 of which was matched by Florida Prepaid College Funds. Attendees got into the spirit of the theme by dressing as such characters as Iceman (Top Gun), Crockett and Tubbs (Miami Vice), the Blues Brothers, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna.

Raymond Monteleone of Paladin Global Partners and Jennifer Leonard Gottlieb, Chairwoman, School Board of Broward County, Florida, served as honorary chairs of the event that was held at the Harbor Beach Marriott. Co-chairs of the event were Josh Vajda, AutoNation, Inc. and Randall Vitale, SunTrust Bank.

Event sponsors included the University of Phoenix, Community Blood Centers of South Florida, JDL Technologies, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Everest University, Pirtle Construction, AutoNation, and the Weitz Company. Over 56 corporate and individual scholarship sponsors include BrightStar Credit Union, Citrix, Nova Southeastern University, and Community Foundation of Broward County.

Students from Miramar high school created the centerpieces. Coral Glades and South Plantation high school astudents provided musical entertainment throughout the evening. Besides the student entertainment, a professional “Madonna” impersonator entertained the crowd.

The Broward Education Foundation raises dollars to enhance and support the work of the Broward County Public Schools and provides innovative programs to encourage the successful performance of students and teachers. All of the funds raised through Step Into the ‘80s will be used for scholarships for Broward students and to purchase tuition scholarships from the Florida Pre-Paid College Tuition Foundation.
