PRESIDENT’S AND CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

As we approach the end of another school year, it is time to reflect on the tremendous support of public education from our corporate and private donors who believe that investing in public education is “good business.”

When presented with the challenge of transforming a warehouse into a teacher retail shopping area that would compete with any local retailer, Pirtle Construction and Target Company stepped up and made it happen!

When presented with the challenge of cuts to school budgets for the arts, the AD Henderson Foundation responded with a new grant to award teachers with curriculum help in the arts and culture areas.

When presented with the challenge of supporting its own, the Broward County school employees stepped up their donations to the Education First Campaign by increasing their gifts 17%, even when their wages have not increased in over three years. This is an example of “employees helping employees” because 100% of the Education First donations go back to our schools in the form of grants and scholarships.

While the school district faces unprecedented challenges with state funding cuts, we can feel encouraged that the private support by local corporations, individuals and other donors will continue to find a way to help public education in any way they can. We applaud our partners and supporters!
