Broward Education Foundation Celebrates
Student Scholarship Recipients and Sponsors
The Broward Education Foundation raised over $660,000 in scholarship dollars that was awarded to 180 students at a reception on Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Hugh’s Culinary, Oakland Park. The students are now able to attend colleges and universities, technical and vocational schools.
“BRACE Scholarships provide opportunities for deserving students who have exhausted other avenues of support and might not be able to pursue secondary education without the Foundation’s assistance,” said Raymond Monteleone, Broward Education Foundation Board Chair. “The sponsors who make these scholarships possible are true heroes of our community.”
BrightStar Credit Union, Citirx Systems, Florida Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, Community Foundations of Broward, Holland & Knight, Pirtle Construction, University of Phoenix, Sun-Sentinel and SunTrust Bank are among the sponsors that attended the event.
The BRACE Scholarship Fund was established in 1985. Throughout the year, BRACE Advisors encourage students to apply for scholarships. BRACE Advisors review and select the awardees, based on un-met financial need, as a service to the Foundation. Since the creation of the BRACE Scholarship Fund, the Broward Education Foundation has provided over 3,660 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, totaling over $7.9 million.
